Pre-SchoolThe Preschool/Kindergarten Program is a definitive program that helps children with cognitive development with additional concentrations in many areas, including practical life and sensorial skills, and a focus on language, phonics and mathematics.

Children in the Preschool/Kindergarten Program are encouraged to become increasingly self-aware, to care for others, their environment and themselves. Social integration and sharing become increasingly important as children develop individuality and gain an understanding of how their actions affect others and their surroundings. This is a whole education program that is relaxed and flexible, yet offers structure.

At this age, we also begin to see what a child’s strengths and interests might be. For instance, if a child shows a particular interest in mathematics, we then guide the child to explore this interest as much and as often as he or she chooses. Every child is treated as an individual and our goal is to nurture and encourage their strengths at their own pace.

Another important element of learning during this stage is the ability to fine-tune senses as well as hand/eye coordination. Children learn to discriminate between high, middle and low tones, as well as the difference between fine and coarse, hard and soft, etc. This cognitive development is crucial and acts as a stepping stone for future learning.

In a Montessori program, all areas of learning support one another. Children develop language as they apply terminology to that which they study in science, or apply math skills and number recognition during a music lesson. Every element of education intertwines to create a truly enriched learning experience.

Projects with a Purpose

The Montessori Method of self-education is a tried and true teaching system used in both private and public early childhood educational programs around the world. The goal is to nurture each child's own innate curiosity and desire to learn.

With Montessori, children learn by employing all 5 senses: touch, sight, smell, taste, & hearing.

Independence is encouraged in all activities, particularly in developing self-help skills while the teacher acts as a facilitator to ensure the needs of the child are met in an uninhibited, safe environment.

This innovative learning system places emphasis on the individual stages of a young child's development. As an individualized program, children are not pushed to do more than is developmentally appropriate.
